Blues are back for their second season after the lockout. After struggling last season, they hope to come out and be competitive this season. Despite having the worst record in the league last year, the Blues have been looking better, but they still aren’t too impressive.

With a record of 7- 18- 3 as of Dec. 11, the Blues place last in the central division, last place in the Western Conference, and last place in the league. In retiring Al MacInnis’ number on April 9th and Brett Hull’s on December 5th, the Blues hoped to boost the teams morale and get them to play better. But unfortunately that hasn’t worked.

"The Blues have been struggling since the lockout. They need to get on track and win games, then they can start up a new consecutive playoff appearances streak," said Parker Finlinson (10).

The Blues have some new faces and a new playing style. John Davidson, former goaltender, and Blues new President signed the fast, aggressive forwards Bill Guerin and Dan Hinote. These players, along with Keith Tkachuk and Doug Weight allow Blues new coach to run plays involving more skating and more odd man breaks. Manny Legace, new starting goaltender, is quick between the pipes. He adds to the confidence of the team and is reliable. For those who have not heard, on monday Dec. 11, the Blues fired head coach Mike Kitchen and signed Andy Murray. Murray is expected to get the team back on track.

Another team that is skating hard and putting up a solid record is Lindbergh Flyers Varsity hockey. They are playing very impressively with a 8-0-0 record which could not be any sweeter. Seven experienced seniors, 12 juniors, two sophomores and three freshmen make up the team.

"The start of the schedule was easier than what we are going to have to face from here on out, but we are looking to do good and come out on top," said forward Nick Jung (11). But as it gets later in the year, the team faces a harder schedule. They square off against CBC twice, Oakville twice, and Vianney once, along with other competitive teams.

"We want to be successful, plain and simple. Everyone on this team has a love for the game and for winning, and that’s what we want to do," said defenseman Jonathon Griffiths (11).
