Girls finish off with boom

May 11, 2007

Girls’ Varsity Basketball has been playing well, and as the season comes to an end, the playoffs look like a definite possibility. Even though their record doesn’t show it, the girls have been playing some really good ball. Also, the team has something special no one else has: barely any seniority and mostly young players. So why is this feature of the team so special?

"Having lower classmen gives us advantages because teams think we aren’t too intimidating, but then we come out and play well and they get surprised," said Brittany Casey (10).

Even with a 9-14 in overall games and 3-4 in league play, the girls are on a roll, winning three of their last four games by at least five points each. The only loss in the past four games was a game against Oakville in which the Flyers held on for most of the game, but Oakville just barely got up more points. The team has been playing like this all season, constantly giving their opponents a tough game and playing hard until the end.

"We’re only losing one senior next year so we’ll be comfortable playing with each other, and we’ll have more advantages over teams because of this," said Alicia Ubriaco (9).

Before fans look forward to the promising next season, don’t forget the girls’ capability of playing right now.
