Golf heads out to the farm
Handful of players return

May 21, 2008

oys’ Golf is looking to get the interest of the student body as they head into the season with a strong team.

After ending last year with a 7-3 record and placing fourth in districts, the team comes back with eight returning players including qualifiers Jonathan Griffiths (12) and Tom Wuennenberg (12). They have also brought along a few new players, including Tim Risk (12), Frank Heilich (11), Matt Redman (10), and Kyle Young (9).

"Our goal is to get to State as a team. If we can do that, the year will be successful," said Wuennenberg.

Practicing at Sunset Lakes last year limited the teams’ experience with practical course management: no sand, barren fairways, and poor layout all conspired against the teams’ effort to compete at the state level. However, this year should prove to different for golf, as head coach Mike Tyler found a new home course, Pevely Farms.

"We are thrilled to be at Pevely Farms this season. We especially appreciate the warm welcoming we are receiving from the staff and members there. It’s like coming home every time we play," said Tyler.

Although players now must commit to a 10 minute longer drive, it has more challenging, higher quality holes, which will ultimately help in preparing for matches.

Come out and support the team at their first home match on April 3 as they battle against Northwest, and on April 2 at St. Albans vs Lafayette. These matches are the start of what hopes to be a magical season.
