Couple costumes make for interesting duos

Halloween is the one night a year on which masquerades and disguises are acceptable and identities are unimportant. While many costumes are intended for an individual, ‘couple costumes’ can be the perfect opportunity for dating couples, or even just friends, to disguise themselves together.
In this way, Halloween allows pairs to celebrate famous couples through the highest form of flattery, imitation. The ‘best couples’ are the ones who work together in creating or researching toward a goal. Pierre and Marie Curie discovered radium together, and John Lennon & Yoko Ono made music unlike any before. Even doomed couples are worth emulating, from Ike and Tina Turner to Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. ‘Couple costumes’ are an inevitable Halloween staple, albeit with a fine line between tacky and humorous.
This distinction depends upon the humor, or lack thereof, in the costume. For example, the infamous ‘Plug & Socket’ costume has lost its humor and been done and overdone for years. The best ‘couple costumes’ are both funny and creative.
Movies and music are great forms of inspiration when it comes to deciding on the perfect costume. Entertainment has spawned famous duos, such as Sonny and Cher and Homer and Marge.
Household objects and food items also make some of the best ‘couple’ threads. Bacon and eggs and milk and cookies are examples of creative, non-tacky costumes.
Overall ‘couple’ Halloween costumes can be a hit or a definite miss, but the best rule is: the more creative the better.
