Winter chills bring fashion thrills

Here’s a toast to the death of indecisiveness:
This winter, bury that frustrating routine of trying to decide what to wear every morning. Say goodbye to mountains of clothes piled on beds and the acquiescent wishes of attending private schools for the sole purpose of ditching this dreaded decision. This season, fashion-frantic, perfect-outfit-hunters can wear everything in their “maybe” pile. Welcome to the glorious land of layers.
“In my opinion you don’t have to be ‘in’ to look fashionable. You first have to have confidence in yourself and everything that you wear will look good. I think this season will have a lot of earth colors, patterns, and colors like purple and yellow. Vests, boots, big collars, skinny leggings, and tunics are the must-haves this season. I go for both fashion and comfort,” said Gabby Berbel (11).

Girls
The overwhelming plethora of dresses that can be seen is a by-product of the party season. As layers should be piling on, the desire to sport that killer dress may overrule such caveats as icy sidewalks and plummeting temperatures, and may force the fashion-savvy to suffer through frostbite and pneumonia to show off that rich brocade. There is an end to this adversity.
This season explores innovative ways with which summer styles can be adapted to a more weather-friendly version of themselves. T-shirt and sweater dresses can be seen with a pair of leggings dressed up with bold accessories or  boots for a holiday party. Cropped jackets are a favorite for simple cover-ups to wear to social events, and for everyday-wear a modified trench and peacoat have risen in popularity.
Stay warm and look hot with the tempting array of scarves invading stores as of late. They are a fun way to add subtle sparkle or pattern to an otherwise lack-luster outfit. Faux fur has embedded itself inside hoodies and coats and can be seen on embroidered boots and other accessories. Allow ballet flats and boots, really long and ankle-height are the favorite styles, to replace the open-toed shoes of last season.
Be adventurous in self-expression as art becomes fashion, embrace bold patterns such as bar code and tie-dye, which have both lined the runways.
Feel free, also, to eat that extra piece of pizza, because styles are getting billowy and more forgiving. Babydoll shirts and dresses, oversized sweaters, and tunics in red, plum, neutrals, gray, and black hide extra pounds while  revealing the  approving gleam of the fashion crown.
“I like to wear comfortable clothes and to be out there and bold. I see a lot of  Uggs and sweatpants out,” said Brittni Bishop (9).

Guys
Guys strut their stuff in essentially the same styles as last season, only warmer. Thermals, sweaters, and henleys are popular, and the classic look of a collared shirt under a sweater remains a constant, also made popular by Lindbergh’s own Gentleman’s Society is the collared shirt under sweater-vest look. Beanies are the accessory of choice.
