No, Vitamin C does not grace this list of touching tunes that have the potential to leave a graduation ceremony without a dry eye in the house, or at least brings a reflection on the times had at high school and with friends they were had with. These songs might not automatically be thought of, but have just as much or more sentimental value. 1. Soco Amaretto Lime, by Brand New With graduating from high school, teenage years are dwindling down and one is expected to ‘grow up’. Brand New captures the feelings a teenager can have during this time and the bliss of hanging out with friends with "Soco Amaretto Lime". The acoustic ballad was released in 2001 on Your Favorite Weapon and isn’t regularly played by the band anymore due to their growth in music and maturity. Still, the song reamains an anthem for teenagers. 2. Transatlanticism, by Death Cab For Cutie Starting off with a mesmerizing piano and soft snare, "Transatlanticism" details being seperated away from someone that another cares for. Like many Death Cab For Cutie tracks, the 7 minute plus song title track from their fifth album seizes the attention of listeners and then hurls a repetitve; hard-hitting closing, repeating "I need you so much closer". ‘Death Cab’ can help with the realization of going off to college and show the appreciation of classmates. Their newest album, Narrow Stairs, is reviewed below. 3. The World's Greatest, by R. Kelly R. Kelly doesn’t have the cleanest of records . . .at all. This doesn’t mean he can’t release an uplifting song about feeling on top of the world, and such a feeling can sum up four years of high school. After countless homework assignments, MAP tests, and other problems different teens have with growing up through high school, "The World’s Greatest," off of his album Chocolate Factory, which also was used in the movie Ali, is a song of success and accomplishment with an uplifting chorus can bring pumped fists. 4. Here's To The Night, by Eve 6 "Here’s To The Night" could be one of those ‘90s songs that everyone knew, but no one had any idea who played it. Well, Eve 6 are the creators of such a song that deserves to be considered for graduation. The rock ballad is a toast to those that have been so important through such a time in life and the hope to never let those go. The original band has since broken up with their last show actually being under the Gateway Arch in St. Louis on July 15, 2004. 5. Memory, by Sugarcult All these tunes deal with memories and face the fact of moving on, but "Memory" is the most hard-hitting of the five. Sugarcult’s single off their fourth album, Palm Trees and Power Lines, seems like it was made for the sappy, sadness of a show like The O.C. The pop-punk track is nostalgic like all on this list, but brings louder beats, vocals, and guitars. There is an acoustic version of the single also for those who dig a softer tune for reminiscing. |
