Stu-Co brought
the exciting world of high fashion to LHS with its first annual Project
Runway fashion show, which featured prom styles by 16 of the school’s
most promising designers.
Preparations began long before the event for co-chairs
Stephanie Faerber (11) and
Natalie Fletcher (11). They worked to get students involved as designers and models, as well as the community as an audience.
"It
is to show off the creativity of LHS students and a chance for the
community to see young designers at our school," said Faerber.
The
show took place March 3 to great success. Prizes were gift certificates
to Westfield Shoppingtown malls and Schaefer’s Hobby Shop for the top
three designers.
The first place winner was
Val Ledbetter (10). She modeled her own pink dress and, said she enjoyed the "perfect" fashion show feel.
"I was really nervous, and when I won it was the biggest rush," said Ledbetter.
Second place went to
Morgan Wuch (11). She designed and sewed her short, animal-printed dress at home.
Mila Mihic (11) modeled it at the show.
"(My
favorite part was) the whole experience. They made it feel like you
were really designing and walking on the catwalk and everything," said
Wuch.
Claudia
Fletcher (9) received third place. She modeled her own creation, a
purple halter dress. She also enjoyed the event, saying she hoped it
would occur annually. Fletcher also acknowledged challenges of the
fashion show.

"It was really difficult because it wasn’t like I could use a
pattern or anything. Also, you always have to make little changes to
fit it here and there," said Fletcher.
However, though difficult, all winners said that the show was a fun and rewarding experience for aspiring designers.
