Borat snubbed, Queen dubbed

May 11, 2007

It’s Oscar time Sun. Feb. 25, and the plethora of talent (or lack of, for that matter) is overwhelming.

To lay things out in an obvious fashion, two movie ‘experts’ collaborated in what could possibly be the greatest merging of minds since Ebert and Roeper.

Ryan: So, Allison, the race for Best Actress this year seems difficult, who do you think is going to win?

Allison: Well, Meryl Streep currently holds the record for most nominations and was super fabulous in The Devil Wears Prada, but Helen Mirren will win for The Queen.

Ryan: Penelope Cruz would probably win the prize for hottest hottie...is that a category? It should be.

Allison: The Best Actor category appears to be a clean sweep for Forest Whitaker for The Last King of Scotland. He has had enormous exposure on the award show circuit this year, taking a Golden Globe for the same performance.

Ryan: I guess you are right, but I think that Peter O’Toole deserves it, having contributed far more to the cinematic history of this country and the entire western world, to have never won an Oscar.

Allison and Ryan: Lawrence of Arabia, we salute you.

Ryan: Regarding Best Director, I would have to give it to Alejandro Gonzalez for Babel, because Hollywood is chock full of ‘Lefties,‘ and that movie is filled with ‘pinko propaganda.’

Allison: However, I really hope this will be the year for Martin Scorsese. He defined a genre, gave Robert DeNiro his start, and should have been acknowledged by the Academy long before this nomination for The Departed.

Ryan: Seriously? Is that a serious question? You’re as stupid as the Academy is for passing over Stomp the Yard.

Allison: And now for everyone’s favorite category: Cinematography! The competition is extremely intense, but it is just possible that Pan’s Labyrinth will pull through and grab that Oscar gold.

Ryan: Fanning Out!
